Our Privacy Principles
 

Your privacy is important to Blacklight Research LLC ("Blacklight").  This Privacy Policy provides information about the personal information that we collect and the ways in which we use and protect your personal information. This policy also provides information on your privacy rights, including your access, opt-out, and other data rights, in compliance with the provisions of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

We take very seriously our responsibility to protect the privacy, integrity, and confidentiality of your personal information. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with applicable legal standards and industry best practices to secure information from unauthorized access and use, alteration, and destruction.

Personal information collection

Your use of any Blacklight website domain (the "websites") or online product or service operated by or on behalf of Blacklight (the "online services") constitutes your opt-in consent for Blacklight to collect and use the following kinds of personal information for ordinary and lawful business purposes:

  • information that you provide for the purpose of accessing our websites under a contractual subscription, including your name, email address, company name or other professional affiliation, job title, mailing address, telephone number(s), credit card data, user name(s), and password(s); 
     

  • information about your use of our websites and online services, whether or not you have a contractual subscription for Blacklight's products and services, including the IP address of the device you use to connect to the internet, the type of operating system and browser used in making that connection, and information about your navigation to, through, and from our websites and online services;
     

  • any other information that you send to us digitally through email, the message systems on our websites or online services, a subscription purchase order signed by you or a licensed entity lawfully representing you, or any other digital communication between you and us.

For your convenience, Blacklight offers you the ability to access some of our websites and online services through mobile-optimized websites and mobile applications. When you use your mobile device to access our websites or online services, we may collect information such as your device's unique identifiers, screen resolution and other settings, general location, and other analytical information for the purpose of optimizing the quality of our products and services.

For its websites and digital communications, Blacklight currently uses two domains: blacklightgo.com and blacklightresearch.com. We also own a number of inactive domains that we may or may not activate in the future. If and when any of these inactive domains is put into use and becomes accessible to the general public, we shall update this section of this Privacy Policy.

 

Cookies

 

Our websites and online services use cookies. Cookies are data files placed on the device you use to access a website. The cookies we use generally collect non-personally-identifying information that is used for statistical purposes. However, it is possible for cookies to collect personally-identifying information. Any personal information collected by the cookies used by us or on our behalf is governed by this Privacy Policy. Blacklight also maintains a Cookie Policy that explains how and why we use cookies. Using personal information

Your use of our websites and online services means you expressly consent that Blacklight may use your personal information to:

  • personalize our websites and online services for you (or not);

  • enable your access to and use of our websites and online services;

  • supply to you services that you may purchase;

  • send to you statements and invoices by email;

  • collect payments from you; and

  • send you Blacklight event invitations and other marketing communications by email.

If and where Blacklight discloses your personal information to its agents or sub-contractors for these purposes, the agent or sub-contractor in question will be obligated to use that personal information in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Policy, Blacklight's Code of Conduct, and applicable law.

In addition to the disclosures reasonably necessary for the ordinary business purposes identified elsewhere above, Blacklight may disclose your personal information to police, emergency responders, and competent judicial courts to the extent that it is required to do so by law, in connection with any natural disasters, life-threatening emergencies, legal proceedings, or prospective legal proceedings, and in order to establish, exercise, or defend its legal rights.

Securing your data

Blacklight will take reasonable technical and organizational precautions to prevent the loss, misuse, or alteration of your personal information.

Blacklight has contracted with leading vendors to manage its subscription process, including sign-ups, password generation and maintenance, invoicing, payments, subscriber database management, research product encryption and distribution, and off-boarding of terminated subscriptions. Blacklight's vendors use encryption technology, firewalls, and other state-of-the-art security measures to protect this information and to process financial transactions for and on behalf of Blacklight. All personal information you provide will be stored on secure servers used by Blacklight or its vendors.

While Blacklight is committed to protecting the security, integrity, and confidentiality of your personal information, we cannot guarantee that security incidents will never happen. You agree that Blacklight is not responsible for security breaches not reasonably foreseeable or reasonably within our control.

You agree that you have an obligation to maintain the confidentiality of your user names and passwords. You agree not to share these credentials with anyone inside or outside of your organization. If you suspect or become aware of a secure breach, you agree to notify us immediately. We are generally required to report to supervisory authorities any data security breach involving a natural person in the European Economic Area within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach.

Cross-border data transfers

Blacklight's actual and potential customers span the globe. Information that Blacklight collects may be stored and processed in and transferred between any of the countries in which Blacklight or its trusted vendors operate to enable the use of the information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Your use of our websites and online services means that you agree to such cross-border transfers of personal information without surrendering your privacy rights as referenced above. Your use of our websites and online services constitutes your acknowledgement that you understand and agree your personal information may be stored on servers located in the United States of America, Canada, or another country outside of the European Union, even if you reside in a country in the European Economic Area.

You have the right to request from us whether or not we possess any of your personal information and if we "process" or "control" that data, or both, as defined by applicable law.

At any time, you may withdraw the consent you provide for our access to, processing of, and storage of your personal information as set forth in this Privacy Policy, provided that we are not required by applicable law or jurisdictional regulation to maintain such information for a lawful purpose.

You have the right not to receive digital communications from us. If you want to stop receiving research products and other messages and notices by email from us, you may click the unsubscribe link in any communication from us. In certain circumstances, you also have the right to access and port the personal information that you have provided to us and to instruct us to modify or delete it, unless otherwise prohibited by law.

Blacklight's clients for research products and services include institutional investors, as well as public corporations, private firms, and individual natural persons. Though Blacklight is not a broker, dealer, bank, or investment adviser, it is our policy to retain client records, including personal information, for five years as a best practice consistent with the data retention provisions of the securities laws of the United States of America.

Children

Blacklight does not offer any products or services to children. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you are under the age of eighteen, you are not authorized to use our websites or online services unless your guardian or other legally responsible adult requests such access in writing to us and we expressly approve the request. We reserve the right to decline any and all requests for access to our websites and online services by children.
